Civil Aerospace Medical Institute
Overview
The Civil Aerospace Medical Institute (CAMI) is the medical certification, research, education, and occupational health wing of the FAA’s Office of Aerospace Medicine. Basically, it is the civilian FAA version of NAMI. CAMI is located at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The goals of this course are to train residents to:
Assess individual risk for occupational/environmental disorders using occupational and environmental historical data.
Become familiar with the FAA approach to common disqualifying conditions for medical certification.
Become familiar with the FAA processes for issuing medical certificates for airmen.
Demonstrate familiarity with the design/operation of FAA aeromedical surveillance systems.
Prepare at least one waiver submission reviewed for a detailed case presentation.
Understand areas of international airman medical standards where other nations differ from US / FAA standards.
