Aerospace Medicine Residency Research Graduation Requirements

To graduate, all residents must complete one case report, one AAC presentation, and one mishap report, present once at AsMA, present one journal club per year, and complete an MPH research thesis defense.  It is not uncommon for residents to surpass these minimums in one or more categories.

A clinical case report can be presented during Friday academics to residents and staff, or more commonly, during Resident Grand Rounds at AsMA.  The graduation requirement for residents is at least one (1) case report.

The AAC meets monthly to hear proposed changes to the aeromedical waiver guide.  The graduation requirement for residents is at least one (1) AAC proposition with presentation.

A mishap report must be presented during Friday Academics to fellow residents and NAMI staff.  Usually, the presentation is completed after completing ASO school.  The graduation requirement for residents is at least one (1) mishap report.

All residents must present at least once at a national aerospace conference,  either AsMA or USNAC.  This requirement is often met by participating in Resident Grand Rounds, a series of panel presentations put on by each aerospace medicine residency.

Residents and NAMI staff gather to discuss journal articles monthly.  Each resident must present at least once per year (2 total) to graduate.

The MPH program culminates in a research project.  To complete your MPH, you must present your research thesis.  This research can satisfy the residency research requirement.

IRB Approve Research

All residents must complete one IRB approved research project with a focus on aerospace medicine or public health.  This requirement can be fulfilled by the MPH research thesis, or be a separate project.
