There's nothing wrong with following your Peter Pan dreams to never growing up. Being a flight surgeon for an entire career seems pretty awesome. But every once in a while reality sneaks in, in the form of annoying terms like "board certification" and "promotion boards." One compromise that allows you to stay true to yourself is the aerospace medicine residency. Yes, you are now "board certified," but unlike other specialties, you still have a soul! And a life!
This timeline shows a potential progression beginning with medical school in the summer of 2017, then a flight tour after completion of internship, and finally returning to a two-year residency such as RAM after successfully completing that tour.
